Per Article III, Section 32 of the Missouri Constitution, the General Assembly is to convene on the first Wednesday following the second Monday in September to consider any bills vetoed by the Governor.  This year, that happens to be September 11, 2024.

There won’t be much to consider this year, as Governor Mike Parson did not veto any policy bills.  His only vetoes were line items within 12 of the appropriations bills.  His vetoes amounted to $1 billion in cuts to the legislature’s spending plan and were mostly earmarked items for special projects.  In justifying his actions, the Governor cited the large expense of an education bill that was passed this year and the need to conserve a state surplus.

It is very unlikely that the Governor is overridden on any vetoes.  While the House has voted to override the Governor numerous times in the past few years, the Senate has been unwilling to consider it.  This veto session is likely to be relatively short and mostly ceremonial.
